....."Thank you to Joseline, our State Delegate" - Pat of HillandaleGardens_Knollwood_Adelphi-area
"I think everyone should be aware of how Joseline continually goes above and beyond to help us out and meet our needs.
Though this concern about these new plans for the Army Research Center had been sent to all our State delegates and Senator, only Joseline picked up the ball and has been running with it for her constituents.....Christmas holiday or not! AND she has school aged children at home too! She is also responsible for connecting with MD Senator Cardin's office to get them involved!
When you get an opportunity, please express your thanks to Joseline. She's a hard working Delegate and deserves many kudos and votes next time she runs! Would that all the US politicians worked as diligently and hard as she does!
Thank you, Joseline. I'm proud to say you are our Delegate and that you represent us!

"Hi Jocelyn,
I was very pleased to read this morning in The Laurel Leader that SHA approved the left turn signal at the Dutch Market on 198. That was fast! I was also pleased, but not surprised to see that this was something you are handling.
Thanks for all you do.
Happy Holidays to you and your family!"

...Mike Burke - Projects Director of Senator Ben Cardin 's office
"Mary and Tim -
Thanks for your efforts to contact Senator Cardin's office concerning this issue. You were right to raise concerns. I have made repeated calls to the Garrison Command, and today they agreed that they have not followed proper administrative procedures and will restart the process.
You should expect the Army to withdraw the current Environmental Assessment within the next few days. They are continuing to make some modifications to the Master Plan and will not have them finalized until sometime during calendar 2010. At that point they will put the Master Plan out for public comment (available both electronically and hard copy) as well as a new Environmental Assessment that takes into consideration all elements of the revised Master Plan. The community will then have an opportunity to review all pertinent documents and have a chance to make meaningful comments on the draft Master Plan.
I have asked the Army to contact me directly when it officially withdraws the EA.
Please thank Delegate Pena-Melnyk for bringing this issue to our attention. "

...Ana Owens, Former Mayor, College Park
"Thank you for your leadership and dedication to our community."
...Karen Coakley, Beltsville
"....I really appreciate your assistance on such short notice."
"... Swahilli Restaurant has a proposal before the Liquor Board to stay open until 2:00 a.m. The Beltsville Citizen's Association took a position to OPPOSE the extended hours at our November meeting. We would greatly appreciate your supporting the community by OPPOSING the 2:00 am closing time. We had problems in October when they had a party with Very Loud Music and they ignored several requests from the police to turn it down. Finally at 1:30 a.m. the police had to shut them down. When this happened they were not suppose to be open past midnight. I have heard that Swahilli is going to ask for a continuance however right now they are scheduled for next week. Could you please send letters to the Liquor Board ASAP. Thanks for your assistance."

... Pat Myers, Adelphi and Hillandale communities - "Our delegate, Joseline Pena-Melnyk, deserves a round of applause!"
"Thank you, Delegate Pena-Melnyk, for stepping up to the plate and pressing hard for information for your constituents. Regardless of how busy the sessions; how busy you are and whatever is going on in your personal life, you always make the time and effort to address our needs, questions and issues. We also appreciate the assistance of Senator Cardin's office.
I praise you for using your influence to get the Army to "budge" and to withdraw the current Environmental Assessment since information, that was to have been readily available to the public, was withheld from the public by the Garrison. Thus, the public didn't have the opportunity to respond to what their building proposals were.
We 're unsure of the status of the $175,000 heliport that will be used, according to the Army, not more than twice a year for a visiting General. In this time of recession this doesn't seem like a good use of tax payers money. A limo with a siren could make a fast trip and, if the weather is windy, icy, etc., the heliport can't even be used.
When the Army presented at our Citizens meeting, it was approached as a done deal. Again we weren't readily given information on how we could voice our opinions. If possible, perhaps this, too, should be revisited to make sure proper procedures were followed.
Have a wonderful holiday season. And, again, our thanks."
